Internal Reliability

The alpha coefficient tends to range from .79 to .90. The General Psychiatric Symptoms Measures manual cites two studies using the SCL-90-R. The test-retest correlation coefficients for the first study were in the range of r=.78-.90 for a one-week interval; the second study scored in the range of r=.68 to .80 for a 10-week interval.

Validity

The Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) is the brief form of the SCL-90-R. Correlations between the BSI and the SCL-90-R are good, falling the range from 0.99 (hostility) to 0.92 (psychoticism).
